Introduction: Early initiation of breastfeeding is recommended preferably within 1 hour of birth. There are many factors that influence this practice, and the mode of delivery may be one of them. Objective: To compare the breastfeeding pattern between vaginal delivery and elective cesarean section using the LATCH scale and the postpartum evaluation form of each patient, which provides the interval and duration of each feeding session. Methods: This comparative study involved 22 postpartum women, within the first 24 hours after delivery, including 11 who had vaginal delivery and 11 who had elective cesarean section. Breastfeeding was evaluated using the LATCH scale and the postpartum form. Mann-Whitney test was used and a 95% confidence interval was considered. Results: The median LATCH score was slightly higher in the vaginal delivery group (9) than in the elective cesarean section group (8), and infants born by elective cesarean section had a higher average feeding duration (35 min) and shorter interval between feedings (102.7 min) compared to those born by vaginal delivery (feeding duration of 27.3 min and interval of 128 min). However, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. Conclusion: This study did not find a statistically significant difference when comparing the breastfeeding pattern (feeding duration and interval) and the LATCH score between vaginal delivery and elective cesarean section.
